Greg originally studied accounting, economics and politics at Monash University in the mid 70s where his speciality was student theatre working across the spectrum of comedy, musical theatre, and contemporary theatre forms. During this time he also helped organise several Festivals of Australian Student Theatre in Melbourne. After leaving university and a brief time in the public service he embarked on his arts career first with community theatre company Theatreworks.
Bureacracy beckoned Greg and his next role was running a major arts job creation scheme in Melbourne. A stint as an arts funding officer with Arts Victoria was followed by period as Community Coordinator for the Bicentenary. Greg has been involved in the cutting edge of some important arts endeavours including the development of the Gasworks Artists Park in South Melbourne. His career has spanned periods of involvement as an administrator in theatre, dance, community arts, writing, visual arts and crafts and in the middle 90’s as the first Executive Director of Museums Australia, the national professional association for museums and their staff, a role which saw him oversee an organisation of over 3000 members nationally.
Greg relocated to Canberra in 1995 and after running Canberra’s toy library, he spent nearly four years as Director of Gorman House Arts Centre, also running the Festival of the Contemporary Arts in 1997 and 1999. In 2001 Greg was appointed Manager of Public Programs at the National Gallery of Australia a role he continued until mid 2004. In 2002 he was recognised as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Arts Management. Greg joined Stopera during 2001 and has worked on A Country Philiosopher, Cantata, The Frog Prince, Tutto Italiano! Jane Eyre, Mozart Magic, Beau Soir, and Being Beauteous the last six as Company Manager.
In March/April 2005, he was General Manager of the Castlemaine State Festival, a 10 day festival involving over 65 arts events. In 2005/2006 Greg has been Co-ordinator of the first Bloom Music Festival, Administrator for the National Multicultural Fringe Festival, Co-ordinator of the Weereewa - A Festival of Lake George, and Administrator for the Canberra International Chamber Music Festival. |
