Jayne Pickering
SOPRANO

Jayne decided to pursue a singing career while studying architecture at the University of Melbourne. After the completion of her degree, she took up a position to study at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she won a number of prizes including the Mabel Kent Estate and the Sleath Lowrey Rotary Scholarships. During this time, Jayne performed with the Opera Australia chorus and competed successfully in local eisteddfods, winning the Bendigo and Ringwood Aria competitions. In 1999, Jayne graduated from the VCA with a Bachelor of Music Performance and, after a period of study in Italy and Germany, she returned to the VCA to undertake a Masters of Music Performance, which she has just completed. Jayne is currently working as an architect and a freelance singer. In October she will appear in the role of “Lauretta” in Lyric Opera of Melbourne’s production of Gianni Schicchi.

Roles performed include “Blonde” in Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio (Eastern Metropolitan Opera), the title role in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Princess Ida and “Josephine” in HMS Pinafore (Savoy Opera Company) and “Yum Yum” in The Mikado (Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Victoria). She has also sung in children’s adaptations of Mozart’s The Impresario and Prokofiev’s Love of Three Oranges for More Than Opera.For Stopera Jayne performed the role of “Lisetta” in the critically acclaimed production of Galuppi’s Il Filosofo di Campagna in the 2002 Canberra season, and again in 2003 for the Castlemaine Festival.
