Soprano Louise Page graduated with distinction from the Canberra School of Music in 1988. The following year she was the vocal grand finalist in the ABC Young Performer of the Year Award and also won the Apex/Robert Stolz Scholarship to study at the Vienna Conservatorium for a year. She worked with such teachers as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Geoffrey Parsons, Waldemar Kmennt and Sena Jurinac. Louise went on to become a member of the Vienna State Opera Studio, the equivalent of Opera Australia's young artist program.
There she undertook vocal and performance studies and performed in several State Opera productions including Manon, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Der ferne Klang and Iphegenie en Aulide. During this period, she also performed in operas and concerts in Austria, Germany and Belgium. Since returning to Australia in late 1992 Louise has performed throughout Australia in concert and opera. She was the inaugural winner of the Mietta City of Melbourne Song Recital Award and has appeared in recital for many organizations, such as Musica Viva, the ACT Lieder Society, and the Port Fairy Spring Festival, as well as broadcasting for the ABC. With Phillipa Candy she has recorded a CD of the Lieder of Richard Strauss and a critically acclaimed recording of the songs of Erich Korngold.
She has also performed Strauss’ Four Last Songs with the Hunter Orchestra and the National Capital Orchestra. For the ACT chamber opera company Stopera, she appeared in the 2003 concert series, Serenades, at the National Gallery of Australia, and performed the roles of Cephise and L'Amour in Rameau's Pigmalion as part of the Stopera production cantata. |
