A concert of Italian opera & song, featuring exciting young tenor LORENZO ROSITANO


Celebrate all things Italian in this concert of opera and popular song performed by artists from Stopera, the ACT’s award-winning opera company. Passion, drama, revenge, romance - Italian opera has it all! Enjoy favourite arias and duets from the greatest operas of Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini, including La traviata, La Bohème and more. Also featured are traditional Neapolitan songs, and contemporary Italian favourites like The Prayer. With exciting young tenor Lorenzo Rositano from Sydney, well-known Canberra soprano Rebecca Collins, and pianist Vivienne Winther, this concert will be a wonderful feast of Italian opera’s greatest hits.

Together these talented artists will present a wonderful selection of Italian opera and concert songs that will delight the audience. Enjoy an afternoon of Italian music on Sunday 5 June 3pm at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre, with coffee and cake at interval.

Special guest artist with Stopera for this concert is Lorenzo Rositano, an exciting young lyrico spinto tenor in the true Italian style. Lorenzo began singing and performing from the age of twelve, and appeared in four consecutive NSW Schools Spectaculars, broadcast nationally on ABC. Lorenzo made headlines in 2006 when he was selected by the Australian Olympic Committee to perform the Australian national anthem at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. He then undertook concert tours of Italy in 2006 and Japan in 2007. Lorenzo has studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music since 2007 with renowned singing teacher Maree Ryan, completing an Advanced Diploma in Opera and currently studying for a Masters degree. Lorenzo also travelled to the United Kingdom to work with international vocal coaches through a 2010 Big Brother Movement Scholarship. He has appeared in a number of opera roles and choral works as soloist, including Messa di Gloria by Puccini and Stabat Mater by Gioacchino Rossini. more>

Joining Lorenzo is soprano Rebecca Collins, a favourite with Canberra audiences for her many appearances in major events in the ACT, including the Canberra International Music Festival, Stopera’s Opera by the Lake, opera productions at The Street Theatre, and concerts with The Llewellyn Choir, Canberra Choral Society, and Artsong Canberra. Rebecca is a winner of the National Aria Competition and has appeared in principal roles for Opera Queensland, Opera Australia and OzOpera, as well asperforming at international festivals such as the Colorado Music Festival and the AIMS Festival in Graz. more>

Vivienne Winther, Artistic Director of Stopera, is the pianist for this concert. Vivienne has appeared in concert for the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra International Music Festival, Sydney Schubert Society, and as a recording artist for ABC Classic FM. As an experienced opera repetiteur, she has accompanied and coached singers from Opera Australia, Victorian State Opera, Beijing Central Opera and Cologne Opera. more>
