David Pearson
BARITONE


Stopera is pleased to announce that David Pearson is to appear as Raymond in the Australian premiere of Nigredo Hotel, a Canadian chamber opera being staged in Septembr 2006. Recently returning to Canberra after several years of study and performance in London, David's last appearance for Stopera was in the 2000 production September Songs, a Kurt Weill tribute that included the complete Mahagonny Songspiel and excerpts from Weill’s German and American theatre works.

In a colourful career to date, David has performed for stage, musical theatre, chamber opera, cabaret, television and independent film. David began his training in Australia before moving to London to study under the tutelage of Mary King at the Royal Academy of Music. Since graduating David has sung in the Academy Choir with Sir Elton John, the roles of Ciaphas and Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar and also made his West End debut. David was baritone soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra performing Bernstein’s Mass, conducted by Maron Alsop, and also featured as guest vocalist for Patti Smith’s Meltdown with the London Sinfonetta.

Other dramatic roles include Bottom in A Midsummer Nights Dream, and Andy Hobart in Neil Simon's Star Spangled Girl. While overseas David was part of the Baylis Programme with the English National Opera, presenting excerpts from Bernstein’s On the Town. He was also the Narrator in the children's opera The Lionhunt! At home David has appeared in the Australian premiere of Jekyll and Hyde, as well as principal roles in Carousel, Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, 42nd Street, South Pacific and Peter Pan. In 2006 David performed the role of Cooley in Don’s Party for Canberra Repertory and will next be seen in the premiere of Titanic the Musical in Sydney later this year.
