Roy Best
TENOR

By now many of you will know Roy as one of the winners of the first Operatunity Oz. His career has moved so quickly since he has barely had time to write his CV.

Here is what the ABC said just a few months ago......

'43-year-old lad living with his dad in Melbourne where together they restore and race vintage cars. Roy’s grandmother was taught to sing by Dame Nellie Melba and he grew up in a house full of music and cars. A carpenter who loves the “happy” colour yellow, Roy has a yellow telephone, yellow racing leathers and a yellow V8 with yellow seats. Opera to Roy is the ultimate demonstration of what a human voice can achieve.'

During Operatunity Oz he proved that he had real potential in the most challenging and public of competitions. Since then he has performed the role of The Duke in Rigoletto with Opera Australia at the Sydney Opera House and of course he is featured on Operatunity Oz - The Winner’s CD. He is starting to make a number of live concert appearances including Victoria’s Opera in the Alps in January.

And his voice? Opera Opera Australia’s national opera magazine said about his CD recording ‘Best gives us a reading of Che gelida manina which is replete with good quality sound…… displaying quality ring not only at the top but throughout the range’.

Roy will appear at our OPERA BY THE LAKE! concert on Sunday 18 February. Don’t miss it!
